Quick bit

So I'm in Long Beach, the last day, typing on a keyboard with an unpredictable shift key. So any capitalization errors--only partially my fault.

Something I didn't know about the Long Beach airport--no skyways. So you walk down the rolley stairs to the tarmac. I'm the Beatles, y'all. I'm a swollen jackie o. And I'm not just talkin' weight here, neither. On my way from the car to the terminal at DFW, I forgot about a step-down, and my ankles collapsed. Luckily, only one seems to have been spained. Less luckily, I'm at a trade show, which means that instead of resting with my ankle up on ice, I've been hobbling around uncomfortably for the past two days. The only time I've been able to walk without pain was last night after dinner and a couple o' Bass Ales. Lordy, how I love Bass.

But I get to go home soon, and I'm taking the morrow off to spend with my little 'un. I'm going to ignore the ankle for another day and try to get some winter clothes for her.

In news that doesn't involve my hideously swollen ankle, the oral defense and exam I had to finish to complete the degree (finally) went magnificently. I don't even think I sounded too ignorant. Golly, y'all, I want to talk about literature and themes and symbolism all the time again.

My mom's response when I told her I had passed? "Now you can do your doctorate." I laughed and laughed. That just ain't happening--not yet, anyway. I need to take the ExCet (or Texxis) this spring and get going on the teaching route. Then we'll see. In many years. As far as schooling for me goes, I'd like to do an MA (w/out thesis, of cours) in art history. Then, I could be a humanities queen.

Okay. must go work for a couple of more hours.
